Administrator's Message
Greetings Village School Community!
We have a very special DEIB event coming up next Monday, November 27th, at 5:15pm! Transponder will be facilitating a Gender 101 class for VS parents, staff, and community members. This will be a virtual event! We plan to send the link out in the next few days and then again on the day of the event. We will also post it in the Village Voice next Monday.
Trans issues are an important topic on today’s life stage. Alok V. Menon says it best in their book Beyond the Gender Binary:
“The gender binary is set up…for us all to fail. We are led to believe that there are only two genders, “man” and “woman,” and these genders are narrow, separate, and opposite. We are taught from a very young age that this is how things have always been and this is the only way to live…Not true. At its heart, discrimination against gender nonconforming people happens because of a system that rewards conformity and not creativity. Rather than celebrating people who express themselves on their own terms, we repress them…Repression breeds insecurity breeds violence.”
Break the shackles of dualism and come check out the event next Monday! We think it’s going to be very cool.
Enjoy your long weekend! We will be practicing the skills of taking only what we need and expressing gratitude to the Earth and skies for granting us life. May you find peace, warmth, and deep relaxation!

There are many events coming up, as well as classroom and kitchen opportunities that can help to meet these hours.
We are in need of a few more volunteers for our Winter Concert on Wednesday, 12/6. Please sign up at this link.
Another way to contribute to our school community is by attending Parent Council Meetings! We will be holding our next meeting on Tuesday, December 12th at 6pm in the Village School Library. If you would like to attend virtually, here is the Zoom link
*Please make sure to sign in, grab a volunteer badge, and sign out at the office when you volunteer.
8th Grade Field Trip to Jordan Schnitzer Museum
The 8th grade had a super engaging trip to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on Friday. Our tour guides really encouraged the students to use their observations to draw meaning from the works and get at what the artists were striving to achieve. The guides' knowledge and enthusiasm, coupled with the students' participation, really boosted our experience.

Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras (ESYO) offers your children a chance to learn the violin, viola, or cello – and they provide the instrument to take home! Scholarships for program fees and instrument rentals for any family that qualifies for federal assistance. We also have scholarships for private lessons!
There are so many benefits! Students gain self-confidence, discipline, cooperation, and the sheer joy of making music together.
