Administrator's Message

Greetings Village School Community!

Winter is upon us! So far no snow, but the winter fairies are in the air! In mythological tales from all over the Earth, we are entering into the last stages of the life cycle of a year, when the nature spirits take their work underground, feeding the roots and resting until the sun returns in full force. It’s also a time when those of flesh and blood stay inside to gather around the cook stoves and fires celebrating and telling stories about the days, and months, and years gone by, resting and feeding our roots.

This week upcoming is one such celebration-our Winter Concert! Our musical teachers have been working hard, polishing up the student’s performance pieces. It’s a must see event. See below for more details!

We’d also like to welcome two new educational assistants to our employ: Ella Amzel and Andrea Gomez both start work this week. They are both excellent teachers and we are so lucky to have them! Stop and introduce yourself if you see them on campus!

Last but not least, thank you to all those who attended the Transponder Gender 101 event last Monday. We hope you got a lot out of this community Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion event! We will be having at least four more events this year for DEIB covering neurodiversity, gender bias, racial bias, and social media safety. Stay tuned for more info on those!

Hoping you’re staying dry and cozy!

Roz, Shannon, and Andy

Winter Concert

Please join us this Wednesday, 12/6 at 6:30pm for our annual Winter Concert! The students and teachers have been working hard to out together a beautiful evening of music. This will take place at the Churchill High School auditorium, and will include performances from grades 1 - 8. There will also be a raffle to raise funds for our amazing handwork program!

We're looking forward to seeing you there.

*We are also in need of one more volunteer to help us with instrument transport to Churchill at 3:15pm. Please let Chrissy know if this is something you can do, or put your name down on our signup sheet. Thank you!

Volunteering

Please reach out to chrissy@eugenevillageschool.org with any questions about volunteering! We ask families to contribute 40 hours of volunteer hours per year, and single parent households to contribute 20 hours. If you would like to know how many volunteer hours you have accumulated this year, please let Chrissy know. There are many events coming up, as well as classroom and kitchen opportunities that can help to meet these hours.

Another way to contribute to our school community is by attending Parent Council Meetings! We will be holding our next meeting on Tuesday, December 12th at 6pm in the Village School Library. If you would like to attend virtually, here is the Zoom link

*Please make sure to sign in, grab a volunteer badge, and sign out at the office when you volunteer.

December Menus

Kitchen News

Meet last week's kitchen superhero - Grace!

With many students at home sick the kitchen has been low on volunteers. Last week one of our school's new parents, Grace Glennanthony, came to our rescue on Thursday morning, mixing up stromboli dough to feed the whole school in short time. Grace has been such a boon to our food service program this fall. She has many years of private catering experience (and fun stories to share from it) as well as a degree in Culinary Arts and Hospitality. Thank you Grace!

This afternoon Bodhi and Xander from the 4th grade did a helpful community service task of folding napkins so we have some ready for our early morning breakfast eaters.

Parent Council

The next Parent Council Meeting will be on December 12th at 6:00pm! We will be meeting in the Village School Library. For those who would like to join us from home, here is the Zoom link

Please join us and send questions and ideas to parentcouncil@eugenevillageschool.org.

The notes from past meetings can be found here (updated).

Every Village School parent and guardian is a part of Parent Council - Parent Council Meetings are open to all parents and guardians on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

You can also engage with Village School families on the Parent Council Facebook page, The Village Vine!
