Administrator's Message

Greetings Village School Community!

We made it!! The last week of school has arrived. Mark your calendar for a few very special events this week:

We will be holding a farewell assembly on Wednesday at nine to say goodbye to some very special teachers: Alyson Byas (1st-3rd grade teacher), Betsy Priddle (Title one tutor), Conor Tracey (middle school math tutor and educational assistant), Ella Amzel (reading tutor & educational assistant), Jennifer Sellers (music teacher), and Sarah Lewenberg (Spanish teacher-whom we are lucky to have hired as an educational assistant for next year!) We will miss all of you and hope you come back to visit!

On Thursday at nine we will be having our end of the year Rose Ceremony to say goodbye to the 8th graders. This one is always so sweet. Each class presents a parting gift to the students, many of whom have been at the school for nine whole years! Then their first grade reading buddies present them with a rose to honor their time here. It’s very sweet, come check it out if you can.

The eighth grade graduation is being held on Thursday evening. We wish each and every one of our graduating students the best of luck on the next leg of their journey! We love you and we look forward to seeing you back on campus in the years to come.

Thank you all for a lovely year and best wishes for a totally awesome summer!

Sincerely,

Roz, Shannon, and Andy

8th Grade Trip

The 8th graders had a fantastic 3 night trip to Twin Rocks filled with campfires, beach walks, boating and quality time with their friends and teachers.

Village School Sweatshirts and T-shirts for Sale

We have a limited supply of Village School sweatshirts and plenty of T-shirts. They are cozy and beautiful, and most importantly, support Parent Council and our school! Stop by the office to grab one while you can!

3rd Grade Play

Bravo to to the 3rd Graders for their spectacular performances of "Jack and the Beanstalk"!

Kitchen News

We have had a busy last few weeks in the kitchen!

Local produce is flourishing, enabling us to serve more and more to students and staff from nearby farms. We have also harvested some leaves from our new herb bed in the courtyard to use in some of our yummy salad dressings.

Thank you 3rd grade for harvesting strawberries to share with the whole school at a recent field trip to The Youth Farm. What a treat!

Yesterday, a former VS student reached out to let me know she got her first summer job. Athena used the VSK as a reference when applying to work for Food for Lane County. Throughout her high school years, Athena would volunteer in the kitchen when her schedule allowed. Her experience here was a great plus when applying for work. We were happy to provide her with an excellent reference!

Last week, a few 3rd grade students brought us a proposal for making and serving herbal tea during lunch. With their help today, we prepared a beautiful hibiscus mint tea which will be cooled and served on Wednesday to staff and a few grades as a test run.

Thank you Village School Families for enabling us to have another successful year providing nutritious and delicious food to our school community. The positive impact we have on the local food system is significant. We set a successful example for other schools and districts as they work towards incorporating more made-from-scratch meals and reducing negative environmental impacts. Whether it has been through volunteering in the kitchen or having your child eat meals with our program, your on-going support is seen and greatly appreciated.

Have a wonderful summer!

Con Cariño,

Toña Aguilar

6th Grade Camping Trip

Last week, the 6th graders had two days of fun in the Eastern Oregon sun! They hit many landmarks including Paulina hot springs, Sunriver observatory, Lava Lands, and the dark depths of the Lava River Cave!

Volunteering

Please reach out to chrissy@eugenevillageschool.org with any questions about volunteering! We ask families to contribute 40 hours of volunteer hours per year, and single parent households to contribute 20 hours. If you would like to know how many volunteer hours you have accumulated this year, please let Chrissy know. We appreciate all of your generous contributions of time and energy to make Village School what it is!

Another way to contribute to our school community is by attending Parent Council Meetings! Our final meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, June 11th at 6pm in the Village School Library. If you would like to attend virtually, here is the Zoom link

*Please make sure to sign in, grab a volunteer badge, and sign out at the office when you volunteer

Library News

Wanted: Library books!

All library books are due this Friday, May 31. Grades 1-5 can return library books to their classroom library baskets any day this week, or bring them directly to the library and place them in the book return. No more books are being checked out, as it takes a few weeks to get all library books back and put away before the end of the year. If you believe library books have been lost, please check in with me about purchasing a replacement or paying the office for the cost of replacement. Please be on the lookout for an overdue notice email from me after Friday if your student has overdue book(s).

Thank you for supporting our library and making sure books are available to check out next year!

Molly Bautista, VS Librarian

Lost & Found

Please peruse our Lost & Found in the breezeway in front of the office. Friday is the last day we will be keeping items, as we will be donating any items left at the end of the school year.

Guitar Donations Needed

The music program wants your old unused guitars for the middle school music classes.  If you have a guitar sitting around gathering dust, we would happily accept your donation. We can make repairs. The middle school music students will appreciate your gift.

Parent Council

The next Parent Council Meeting will be on Tuesday, June 11th at 6:00pm! We will be meeting in the Village School Library. For those who would like to join us from home, here is the Zoom link

Please join us and send questions and ideas to parentcouncil@eugenevillageschool.org.

The notes from past meetings can be found here (updated).

Every Village School parent and guardian is a part of Parent Council - Parent Council Meetings are open to all parents and guardians on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

You can also engage with Village School families on the Parent Council Facebook page, The Village Vine!

Here are the recordings of prior Ophelia's Place Presentations:

Thank you so much to Shannon Boyd for her work on this getting these presentations together for us!

There is a Village School Parent Facebook page called the Village Vine.

Lots of info is shared there about community events, as well as reminders on school events.

Please take a look!

Hult Center News

Arts Access is a ticket subsidy program at the Hult Center that provides free or subsidized tickets to community members lacking adequate access to the performing arts.

What is Arts for All?

Arts for All is a program that supports community members currently using an EBT or Oregon Trail Card. A patron can show their Oregon Trail Card/EBT and can purchase two (2) $5 tickets to many of the Hult Center’s best music, theatre and dance groups. Participation varies by event and will be clearly labeled on our website.

How does it work?

Arts For All offers $5 tickets to select Hult Presents shows. Participating shows will have information on the website. Patrons must purchase tickets in person to present their Oregon Trail Card and can then set up an account so it is noted they have purchased their allotted 2 tickets. Tickets will be on a first come, first served basis. Please note, Arts For All cannot be applied to past purchases.

Below are the events we can currently provide these tickets for:

If you have any questions, please contact the Hult Center Ticket Office at 541-682-5000 or hultcentertickets@eugene-or.gov.
