Administrator's Message

Greetings Village School Community!

We’ve entered the luge tube to the new year! We’ve been busy this past week, we had a multi-grade field trip to the Hult Center, kinder and first grade lantern walks, an earthquake drill, a Charter team site visit for admin, and picture retake day. We’re really looking forward to the long weekend. We will leave you with a beautiful poem, one that celebrates the joys of fall. Have a great break!

Fall, Leaves, Fall by Emily Brontë

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;

Lengthen night and shorten day;

Every leaf speaks bliss to me

Fluttering from the autumn tree.

I shall smile when wreaths of snow

Blossom where the rose should grow;

I shall sing when night’s decay

Ushers in a drearier day.

Sincerely,

Roz, Shannon, and Andy

Charter Renewal Meeting Weds, Dec 4th, 6:00 pm at 4J Offices: 200 North Monroe

As we move through our 25th year as a school, our charter agreement with the Eugene 4J School District is coming up for renewal. On December 4th, the 4J Board will hold a hearing at 6:00pm to gauge public interest in continuing The Village School's charter. We are asking families and staff members to take part in the meeting if they have the time. Click here to let us know if you are able to attend the meeting or provide written testimony about The Village School.

8th Grade Wreath Pickup and Holiday Gift Bazaar

Hello Village School Families!

Wreaths are here for those who ordered one! We will be set up after school on Tuesday and Friday, 12/3 and 12/6, so plan to stop by and grab yours.

Also 12/3 and 12/6, 8th grade is also proud to host a Holiday Gift Bazaar in conjunction with the wreath pick ups. Please plan to drop by our tables to shop ornaments, journals, coffee mugs, luminaries, and more, all hand-crafted by the 8th graders. All sales go towards the 8th grade trip! See pictures below:

Village Kitchen

On occasion students request that we bring back entrees that we haven't served in a while. At the beginning of the school year, Ila from the 6th grade requested baked potato day be on the menu again. She was happy to enjoy it again. And thanks to the enthusiastic request from many students and staff, we are serving Pad Thai again this week.

Last week, Wylder and Hali'an, from the 4th grade had their first opportunity to help in the kitchen. They did a careful job cutting up apples to cook down into applesauce. Before they returned to their classroom they got to check out the inside of our walk-in cooler which was quite exciting.

A couple of our dedicated, regular volunteers are out for surgery in December. We are in need of help on the following days:

Monday 12/2 lunch service 11:30-1:00

Wednesdays 12/4, 12/11 and 12/18 - lunch prep 8:30-10:30

Wednesday 12/11 - lunch service 11:30-1:00

Please let me know if you are able to step in and help.

Have a lovely Thanksgiving break.

Warmly,

Toña

Winter Concert Volunteering

The Winter Concert will take place on Thursday, December 12th, and we are needing volunteers for chaperoning, ushering, setting up/cleaning up, and transporting instruments. This is the last big event of the year and a great way to work toward meeting your 40 hours! Please sign up for a shift here, or let Chrissy know at chrissy@eugenevillageschool.org if you'd like to get your name down for a volunteering shift. Thank you!

Parent Council

Please join us on Monday, December 16th at 6pm for our next Parent Council Meeting! This will take place on Zoom, so you can join us from the comfort of your home. Here is the Zoom Link. We look forward to seeing you there!

Lost & Found

Please take a moment to browse through our very full Lost & Found wardrobe before Winter Break. This is located in the breezeway outside of the office. We will be donating or repurposing any left over items to the Village School lending library at the end of the school day on 12/19. Thank you!

Clothes Donations

Thank you so much to those who have donated clothes! The office is in need of a few more clothes for our lending library. We are especially low on pants (sweatpants would be ideal!) for Kindergarten through 8th grade students. If you have gently used clothes that your child has outgrown, please consider donating them to the office. Thank you!

Title I Reading/Math Services, 2024-2025

Every fall, winter and spring, our Title staff and classroom teachers administer reading and math assessments to each of our students.  If a student in grades 1-5 scores below the 30th percentile, she/he may be recommended by our team to receive instructional interventions in reading and/or math with their progress monitored.  At The Village School, all students receive up to 90 minutes of language arts and 60 minutes of math instruction each day.  If your child will be receiving additional reading or math instruction, his or her classroom teacher or the Title I coordinator will notify you. Please see the links below for additional information.

Los alumnos de espanõl y francés en los programas de inmersión se inscriben en Eugene IHS sin el proceso de la lotería, porque ya se matricularon en el programa de inmersión a través de la lotería en la escuela primaria o la escuela intermedia.
