Greeting Village School Community!
Welcome back to week two of the three week luge to Winter Break! We’ve rounded the first bend and we’re picking up speed, noses frozen, jackets zipped up tight, hurtling through space and time…
Here at school we’re getting prepped for all the activities coming up before break: two class plays, one winter concert, one full middle school field trip and one fourth grade field trip, and one culmination of an eighth grade wreath sale fundraiser. It’s going to be a full nine days!
To end out, we will leave you with a quote from Dr. Becky Kennedy’s book Good Inside (which you should take a look at, if you haven’t already!):
Imagine your child has an emotional bank account. The currency in this bank account is connection, and their behavior at any moment reflects the status of their account, how full or depleted it is. I mentioned earlier the idea of this “connection capital”-- when we really connect with a child, and make an effort to understand what’s going on for them, we build our capital…It’s important to keep in mind that connection capital flows two ways. Like a bank account, we draw from our connection capital regularly. Parents spend connection capital when we ask kids to clean their rooms…or [say] screen time is over. Parents are big connection capital spenders, because we often have to ask kids to do things they don’t want to do and to respect our rules when they’d rather not. This means that parents need to be even bigger connection-builders. We need a strong reserve to draw from so that we don’t run out of funds.
Here’s to overflowing connection capital accounts!
With love and sincere appreciation,
Roz, Shannon, and Andy
Winter Concert Volunteering
The Winter Concert is happening next week on Thursday, December 12th, and we are still needing to fill volunteer shifts for chaperoning, ushering, setting up/cleaning up, and transporting instruments. This is the last big event of the year and a great way to work toward meeting your 40 hours! Please sign up for a shift here, or let Chrissy know at chrissy@eugenevillageschool.org if you'd like to get your name down for a volunteering shift. Thank you!

8th Grade Wreath Pickup and Holiday Gift Bazaar
Hello Village School Families!
Wreaths are here for those who ordered one! We will be set up after school again on Friday, 12/6, so plan to stop by and grab yours.
On 12/6, 8th grade is also proud to host a Holiday Gift Bazaar in conjunction with the wreath pick ups. Please plan to drop by our tables to shop ornaments, journals, coffee mugs, luminaries, and more, all hand-crafted by the 8th graders. All sales go towards the 8th grade trip! See pictures below:
Handwork Raffle
Please support our handwork program by buying tickets for the raffle of items made by the handwork teachers. All proceeds go to buy extra tools and materials not covered by our budget. Items will be on display in the office and winners will be announced at the winter concert.
They cost $2 a piece or 3 for $5.
Tickets will be available for purchase one hour before the concert. You can also buy tickets in advance in the handwork classroom (room 108) on Mondays and Wednesdays between 2:45-3:00. Cash and checks preferred.

Village Kitchen
Check out Delicata Dan! (on left) This week we roasted up some delicious delicata squash from Upriver Farm thanks to the help of Kindergarten dad Dan.
Many students enjoyed the special offering like 3rd grader Henry (on right) who ate it alongside spaghetti with our homemade marinara, cucumbers, Honeycrisp apples, local salad greens, grated carrot and green beans. Everything on his tray is organic and grown/prepared with positive intention and love. Yum!
We are in great need of a few volunteer subs this week and next. If you are able to help, even for 1/2 hour after drop off, it would make a positive difference in our capacity to prepare food for students and staff. Please call/text Toña at 541-510-8604 if you can help.

Middle School Broadway Outing
The middle schoolers got to see the Broadway show, "Back to the Future" at the Hult Center! There were rave reviews from students and staff alike!
Lost & Found
Please take a moment to browse through our very full Lost & Found wardrobe before Winter Break. This is located in the breezeway outside of the office. We will be donating or repurposing any left over items to the Village School lending library at the end of the school day on 12/19. Thank you!

Garden Project
If you have extra bulbs and seeds, please consider donating them to the Village School. There are a few garden plots around the school that are being worked on, and could benefit from the beauty of some blooms!

Village School Lunch Diaries

At The Village School, all students receive up to 90 minutes of language arts and 60 minutes of math instruction each day. If your child will be receiving additional reading or math instruction, his or her classroom teacher or the Title I coordinator will notify you. Please see the links below for additional information.
