Community Service Walk-a-Thon
Our Community Service Walk-a-thon is a fun and fit activity for grades 1 through 8. Students set realistic lap goals based on age and development. Drinks will be provided, and each student will receive a certificate of participation. Our goal is to raise at least $12,000. Half of this will help The Village Kitchen and our garden. The other half will support the following eight organizations, which were chosen for co-sponsorship due to their commitment to community values and ecological awareness:
1st Grade: Nearby Nature
2nd Grade: Cascades Raptors Center
3rd Grade: Food for Lane County Gardens
4th Grade: NextStep Recycling
5th Grade: Walama Restoration
6th Grade: Chintinimi Wildlife Rescue
7th Grade: Whole Earth Nature School
8th Grade: McKenzie River Trust
How does your contribution help?
The average walk-a-thon benefits the organization sponsoring the event or a large nonprofit organization. The Village School Community Service Walk-a-Thon differs in that it supports local organizations working to improve conditions right here, in our community. Students further the efforts of these groups by raising funds and conducting a service project. Proceeds also support our healthy kitchen which prepares meals on site with mostly locally sourced and organic ingredients.
